I just got back home about ten minutes ago or so and MAN did I have fun! Sure, my entire body and all of my clothes smell like they took a bath in tobacco, there's a constant high-pitched ringing in my ears, I'm slightly out of breath, and I have the strange urge or cough/clear my throat every five minutes or so. I HAD FUN. And that was the point.
lol... you must be there, totally and absolutely confused and completely appalled but I'll explain in a bit! :) Of course I have to! It's the main reason of this post! Well, I went to a music venue in downtown Houston called Walters with my sister, her friend (Mediha), her friend's sister (Meena), her friend's sister's friend (Lian), and moi! We got there about an hour and a half early (the doors were SUPPOSED to open at 8) and no one was there yet except the crew. Soo... considering the fact that most of the people were hungry and two needed to tinkle, we went out to find a place to get some food and give Mr. Tinkle Pot a visit! We were contemplating going to the nearest store which was a liquor store but we were joking. Mostly. Then we walked further down the road to this Mexican Restaurant. This AUTHENTIC Mexican Restaurant for there was barely any English in there, whether spoken-wise or on a sign. :) We got rice and cheese enchiladas. Oh were they GOOD!
By the time we got back, some of the other people had arrived. Most of them were THIN and dressed in black with metal attachments, both in the skin and on their clothes (I myself was dressed in a black shirt and pants with an olive green jacket). We waited out there until around 8:30 but while we did, I got a taste of the punk scene up front. The people were REALLY nice. I mean, some of the people came with no money for the ticket (which was $10) and went up to everyone there and asked for money or spange (you know, spare change. haha!) and you know what? The people actually complied by digging into wallets, pockets, and purses! I found out from Mediha who used to regularly go to these things and she said that if you're a runaway and you go to these things and tell someone they had no place and if they could sleep over and sleep on the floor, then they'd let them. MAN. Most people in this world are NOT like that. Isn't it sad? That the real nice people are the people many people are hesitant to talk or be around with because of their looks? I mean, there is like a social community! You make friends JUST like that! It's like "Oh! Hi! I like your shoes! What's your name?" or "Do you want me to take a picture? What's your name?". The latter one actually happened today.
Well, anyways, we went into the venue which was dimly lit (which I LOVED) and was pretty small. There was a bar and a place where you buy band merchandise (my sister got a shirt). We went to see The Briefs (which were about 45 to 50 years old though they were REALLY fit and pretty athletic looking and not to mention CRAZY - I hope I'm like that when I'm their age!) but the other bands that played were Clit 45, Total 13, and Negative Outlook. They were all pretty good. The volume was ridiculously loud though - which is why my ears are STILL ringing. I got used to it after about ten minutes though. My group "rested" and stayed in the small rectangular area of the venue next to the bar for it was more "quiet" and there was a little less people and you could sort of hear what you were saying. Our area was also the area where people came to tie their shoelaces, run into a dark corner to talk on their cell phone with their ears clamped shut (doesn't work well but it's better than nothing!), or have a cig fix.
We all know my strong views on smoking. I hate it. It's not good for you and it is even worse for the people around you. Also, the fact that I'm into medicine doesn't help. I've seen what it does to patients because of my internship experiences. Unfortunately, about 98% of the people there smoked. The air was clogged with the acrid smell of tobacco and the ceiling was 'foggy' due to it and it was not at all a surprise to see someone around my age (since most of them were around my age [high school] or less) light a cig just like that as if they do it everyday, which they probably did. So, the result was me and my friends inhaling second hand smoke the entire night for about 4 or 5 hours. That resulted in my urge to cough periodically and my current body odor as well as my shortness of breath, especially after I talk. :) I haven't given in to the urge to cough yet, I'm glad to say. It's only suppressed a bit so far. *sigh*
Even so, the saddest thing was the guys. Most of them were SO cute! lol.. perhaps that's saying that I'm attracted to SKINNY (or relatively thin and muscular), pale, multicolored-haired (or dark-haired), black-wearing, addicts to metal studs and other metal accessories and patches, with skin-tight pants with puny legs. I have no idea what type of guy I'm attracted to. All I know is that I'm attracted to him. And so today, I was attracted to many of them. But it was so sad. The following is a scenario that repeated itself at least 20 times, give or take.
*guy walks past me to stand near me*
Me (thinking) - Oooh... cuteness!
*turns around*
Me (thinking) - Yep! Definitely cute! And whoa! Did he LOOK at me??
*guy walks away after at least 10 to 15 minutes of standing*
--about five minutes later--
*guy comes back*
Me (thinking) - AHA! He's back! *dreamily sigh* [just kidding! Sort of... *blush*]
--about several seconds later--
*guy slightly turns around towards me*
Me (thinking) - I get to see his face again!
*sees a glimpse of a pretty orange light*
Me (thinking) - NOOOOOOO!!!!
*sigh* Yes. All the guys I was attracted to were smokers. It was a fact that seriously depressed me. All destroyed by cigarettes. After I find that out, I still found them cute but most of it weared off but when I looked at them, I was a bit sad. Smoking's a MAJOR turn off for me. All those good looks gone to the dumps. A waste. Such a waste.
Well, I think I'm gonna go now. There are pictures of the bands - not the cute guys, directly - so when I get the chance, I will!
