Well, today, I went to the Holy House as we all call where the "temple" is. OK, technically, it's a place of worship - it's just in a house which is why it's called the Holy House. So, there's this HUMONGOUS altar made out of polished and intricately carved wood that weighs a ton and needs to be hauled off in pieces when it has to be moved - and a single leg needs at least 2 full-grown men to carry it. This altar is placed in a single room (or area) of the house reserved especially for it. You can't run in the area and it goes on. Only this time that I went there with my mom and sister, we weren't to have "Bible study" time. We were going to help prepare the ingredients, cook the food, and pack the food to be shipped off to the other Holy Houses that are scattered across the Houston area. I love to chop veggies (about 100% more than I like to eat them) but this took a while even with all the people.
lol.... the funny thing was that no one knew who the house belonged to! When my family left, then we found out. It belonged to all the Tao members of a particular "family" since we all started into the religion differently. That particular owner bought that house (which was settled in a quaint-looking nieghborhood in Sugar Land) for all Taoists who were coming in from out-of-town to stay and it was equipped with all the essentials. And so, that place was the headquaters of the Food Committee. LOL... :) Anyways... back to me talking about my love for decapitating veggies...
Yeah! So we prepared the food, the containers (the men cooked the food in huge stainless steel vats), and blah blah blah blah blah. All of this for a total of 97 people. I dunno if that includes the people that were helping out (for there were quite a few) but it's around a hundred people. That is a whole lot of food, plastic tubberware for the soup, styrofoam take-out boxes, and a whole bunch of other stuff. The first hour I was fine. I was into it, getting a hang of it. Second hour was pretty good for I was getting used to it. Third hour the work was getting tedious and dull. Fourth hour I was wishing the day would end - but we'd just barely started. The fifth? I wish I would die. The sixth? I wish I would just be blissfully unconscious for the next 5 hours. lol... that didn't happen. I mean I love to work but sometimes it's the same thing over and over again and the fact that my mom woke me up at 8 in the morning when I slept at 3:30 earlier that morning. (OK, that was my fault and I had to start and finish a book because I didn't feel like sleeping after I already finished another book.)
But yeah, this thing happens annually for three days straight. My sister and I don't want to go tomorrow and that house is truly interesting though. It has a secret passageway which is so cool and my sister and I hid in it. I was behind this curtain deal stuck in the tight corner of a closet-like shelf thingy that made up my cieling and was 3 - 4 inches above my head. My sister was opposite me in basically the same setting as I. Then I remembered how Widow Spiders liked places like this. lol... at the end, someone did get bit by a spider. It was my sister. It crawled on her but no worries. It was one of those cute little spiders that are also somewhat freaky since they were so light a brown they were almost transluscent. It bit my sister on the hand and the adults there had a little commotion to see if my sister was all right and got ointment to apply to her bite. *raises an eyebrow* Apparently none of them paid me much attention since they seemed not to hear that the spider was a house spider whose bite was no worse than an ant's. I know, one bit me on the toe once when I was outside. :D
Well, I better go now and read a chapter or two of the book I'm currently reading now! :)
Good night all!
