Hitting Two Birds With One Stone

So, like any other day, today started with me getting up and out of bed reluctantly. Even though I did get out of going to school (I'll get into that later), the point was that I'd rather not wake up before 10 am. Actually, I'd rather just not wake up until around 12. Alas, my dear mum was at home and even if I didn't, her charming soprano voice would surely wake me up anyways. So, today was supposed to be the Mother-Daughter Bonding Day which consisted of me shopping for groceries with my mom, among other things. My mom also wanted me to get out of the house. *rolls eyes*

So... we left at around 11:30 and we dropped off the mail to be sent out and went into the post office to put our mail on hold from June 6th to June 12 (when my family and I were going to Disney World for my graduation trip. YAY! - I'd still rather go somewhere up north though.) Then, we went to Viet Hoa Supermarket and then Hong Kong Center/Market. There, while my mom was doing her thing in the Vegetable-n-Fruit section, I went off to the Teahouse where I get my tapioca. I got the regular Tapioca Cream Tea (#1). However, that's when the day stopped being so... dull. And boring. :) I, IRIS, GOT OFFERED A JOB! It was actually quite sudden. The following is the dialogue between me (I) and the manager (K for Kim) of the place...

I : Hi! Umm... *looks at menu dealio* One Tapioca Cream Tea.
K : Number 1 or number 3?
I : Erm... one.
K : *looks at me closely* Are you Chinese or Vietnamese?
I : Uh... both.
K : Ohh... *pause* Which of your parents is Chinese and which is Vietnamese?
I : Um... both.
K : *looks at me, somewhat confused*
I: My family's from China but moved to Vietnam.
K : Oh.. So what language do you speak? You understand it more?
I : I understand them better than I speak.
K : What about your parents?
I : They speak both.
K : How old are you?
I : Seventeen...
[OK... basically, she asks me about what grade I'm in, what school I go to, when my last day of school is.... etc.]
K : Would you like a job?
I : *pause* *stares* Are you serious?
[Here, Kim tells me she is but she doesn't want anyone who isn't diligent in their work, who talks too much on the cell, or has too many dates, etc. I reassure her because (1) my phone has been dying for the past couple of months and (2) I am currently single.]
K : Oh OK! Can you write down your number? Do you think your parents mind?
I : Oh noooo, they won't mind. *writes down asked information* *gives it to her*
K : *writes down her name and cell number* *gives it to me* Call me and tell me what they say, OK?
I : Sure!

I then tell my mom what happened. I was like "Mom, I got offered a job." My mom stares at me for a bit and says "What do you mean?" I say "I mean that I got offered a job." My mom still looks clueless. Then I elaborate with "She asked me if I wanted a job." lol... my mom eventually got it and when we were done grocery shopping, she accompanied me over to the shop and spoke to Kim. According to what I heard (Kim happens to speak Mandarin), Kim liked me appearance (which I thought hilarious). She liked how I didn't seem to care all that much about my appearance since I have no make up, my hair's let down, etc. and that I seem to be nice and friendly and so on. lol... I'm to call her soon to tell her my available dates to work. Kim seems really cool. She said how if I have any problems or anything, just tell her and she knows that at first I'll be nervous but don't worry about it. lol... after we left, my mom was like how Kim only probably hires the young pretty Asian people.

Then I thought about it. My mom said "young, pretty Asian people". Kim offered to hire me. That means my mom thought I was pretty! HAHA! The past month or so, my mom told me that I was (directly translated to English) hideous! *snort* I mentioned it to her and she told me that if I actually got enough sleep and exercised, I'd be real pretty. *snort* My mom knows that stuff doesn't work on me; I don't really care what people think about me as long as I'm comfortable and fairly content. Oh.. and as long as I'm not obese, of course. I should be walking more though, I know. Plus, what I wore today (my black Harry Potter tee and my army pants) was something my mom doesn't really like and it helped my self-image for Kim! Totally rocks. Of course, now I have to trim my bangs and tie up my hair - but I got the job, even with all the 'boyish' clothes I wear! lol... I spent the time walking back to the car going "HAH! See? My clothes TOTALLY rock!"

Anyways! I now have a job and I didn't even have a REAL interview (by the way, I didn't get the job for Super Target. The Boneheads...). I love it when I least expect it, good things happen out of nowhere. Life rocks!

Now... I have to tell her that this is only a summer job and even though I'm 17 and I still count myself as a senior since graduation isn't until this Saturday at 9 am, it does not mean that I'll be staying for a long while. I have a feeling she thinks I'm STARTING 12th grade, not finishing it. *sigh* I hope it doesn't kill my chances at getting a job - though I can introduce her to my sister!

I just realised something, I'm going to be 17 when I graduate! OH YEAH! *thinks* I still feel old though...
