Well! My terribly long and sweaty day has come to an end - unfortunately. :) hehe... lemme back up a bit, shall I? Today, my mom woke me up along with my sister to go to Austin for a Campus Visit. What time was it? It was 4:15 AM. I find something spectacularly wrong with that, but what the hey! *sigh* Anyways... We left at around 5:15 and picked up my grandparents since they demanded that they go along to see their old AMERICAN hometown when they first arrived in the "New World". *snort* :D lol... We got to Austin between 7 and 8 and it was, apparently, quite early for my 11:00 appointment. Sooo we went around the neighborhood. My parents and grandparents were going around town pointing out places they used to go to. I saw their old apartment (ugh.. it was hideous!). I saw my mom's old High School: McCallum. It has nice windows. :) I liked the windows. Without windows equals claustrophobia, though large windows may also precipitate and strengthen daydreaming. hehe...
We went up Congress Street/Road/Whatever-Goes-Here and saw the Capitol which was REALLY pretty. :) Not to mention ancient. There were law enforcement agents everywhere! lol... It was like they were expecting a terrorist to come along with a toddler or two and a spouse. Hmm.. though that would be an ingenious idea. *ahem* Moving on, the point was that I had an invisible bookmark right on that landmark and I planned to come back to visit. Little did I know that I would be coming back to visit, to my delight.
After that, we went around the town and I suddenly got quite sleepy and next thing I know, I was in front of a Taco Bell that had signs everywhere that said "Accepts Bevo Bucks". We were outside waiting for it to open and it was around 9:35 and the place opened at 10. :) Needless to say, we were the first customers. lol... I had a Mexican Pizza and a bit of the Choco Taco with some Fruit Punch. :D Yummm... Hm.. I'm thirsty. But yeah, throughout the entire first dining experience of the day, my grandpa (who's pretty picky when it comes to food) kept on complaining about the food. I dunno what was wrong with it but according to how my grandpa kept it up, you might as well think that they put in mashed potatoes into his burrito instead of the traditional mashed beans. Afterwards, my dad realised that there was 15 minutes 'till 11 and they all started to rush. *rolls eyes* They were the ones that scoffed that we still had 20 minutes left. I find that humorous. hehe...
Hmm, I believe I haven't mentioned the fact that the entire day was dreary, wet, humid, hot, and wet? :D Now I have! Sooo, my sister, mom, and I walked awkwardly whilst sharing a pretty big umbrella made for a SINGLE person so my entire right sleeve of my jacket was wet. Swell, isn't it? My pants were about 4 inches too long so the bottom half was fairly damp as well. I must admit that it felt pretty good though. I love the rain. I just hate how humid and muggy it gets and all that fun stuff that comes in the package. So we all figured out where to go for the tour (it was in the main building next to the TOWER). Here, we got our Longhorn Burnt Oragne Ponchos. They rock a hundred-fold!!! This was where we parted with our mom. I learned several interesting things. The entire campus is GIGANTICALLY HUMONGOUS. Jester Hall is the biggest dorm dealio in the world and houses about 3,000 students. There is a whole lot of construction in and around the campus, therefore it was muddy. That not only made my pants wet and STILL wetter, but it left a nice gray sheen to it. I mean think about it! I have mud from AUSTIN! Rad. Totally. lol...
The gymnasium that we went to was really nice and pretty though the weight room was - how do I say this? - funky-smelling. OH! There was this guy that was attempting to do tummy crunches! LOL... I enunciate the word "attempting". Why? Well, simply because his body barely lifted two inches off the ground. Hm.. practice makes perfect! :) Some of the colleges within the school smells a whole lot like corporate buildings and some of the lecture halls are pretty intimidating. I blank out and doze a whole lot and the teacher's about 15 feet away from me at the most! If I went here, the teacher is almost a speck! Sort of. But if put side-to-side with the teacher in High School, the professor is a speck of constantly reproducing cells. hehe... Looks funny... Anyways, let me tell you all this: I remember someone telling me if you went to UT @ Austin, you probably won't have to go to a gym: walking from class to class is enough! :) It is TOTALLY true. Austin is pretty hilly. Well, most of it's flat but, suddenly, you might find yourself on a pretty steep incline or decline. Those are horrible! LOL... How do I know?
Well... The tour started at the main building. The admissions session is pretty FAR away in the John Hargis Hall. It took my sister and I a little less than 30 minutes to get from the Tower to the Hall so it was about an hour roundtrip. It was good exercise, I tell you. There was a pretty sharp incline and a medium-lengthed slope. We walked down four small roads, the Speedway, and Martin Luther King Boulevard. I was proud of myself because this was the only time that I ever needed to figure out how to get from one place to another with use of a map. :) It was soooo COOL! lol.. My sister went around saying how the Emo guys there were "so cute". lol... funny thing is that if any of them decided to ask her out, she'd either say "no" or hesitate and change the subject. Why? She hates the music, but she likes the look, according to what I see. lol... She's one of the more complicated girls I hear guys talking about. I know. I live with her and she's complicated to me and I'm not even a guy!
So yeah... now I'm just here wondering if I'll like it. It seems likeable enough. I'd get used to the LARGE layout of it all eventually and the grass is really pretty and I love trees. I still don't like the weather at all (hey! It's STILL Texas, you know!) but the capitol is a nice backdrop. Some of the shops look intriguing and there are several Starbucks!!! I love the fragrant smell of coffee, mocha, frappucino, etc. Tea's also really good as well! :( *Sniff* There's no tapioca though!!! I didn't see any grocery stores either. Hm... my parents were looking around for HOUSES!!! They were/are(?) thinking about buying one so I can live in it and they could also rent it out to a roommate or two. They don't exactly like the deal they'd be getting. They got one of those advertising papers for a house and this particularly house is $155,000 and is about 1260 sqaure feet. :) My house? It was at about the same price and is almost 3,500 square feet! The house-in-question has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a master, and a large backyard. :) I love large outdoor spaces! It has several other things but house-scoping isn't really fun for me.
Hmm... well, that's basically it about the Austin thing. We did all go to the Capitol and visit it inside and such. :) Lots of pictures were taken. lol... It's REALLY pretty inside and that entire place is a major fire hazard. Wood's EVERYWHERE! lol.. As for my grandparents and mom, they didn't like Austin. It was small, crowded, didn't have many places to eat, and looked pretty much the same it did twenty years ago. They were deeply disappointed. :) I like it enough. BIg's not always good - though I prefer larger roads and streets. My own street on which my house rests on is four-laned and has a nice curb-lines thing in the middle with nice trees. I love trees. :) I hate construction. *sigh* lol.. My grandma kept on saying how the shops and restaurants in Austin were as small as the ones in England. :) I'll see for myself.
